Settings
Units
Changes temperature, wind speed, and distance units throughout the application.
Extended Forecast
Limits the number of days shown in extended forecasts. Each weather model has its own maximum: GEFS (35), GFS16 (16), ECMWF/WeatherNext (15), DWD (16), NWS (7), NBM (4), HRRR (2). The forecast will show up to this many days, or the model's maximum if lower.
Snowfall Calculation
Choose how liquid precipitation is converted to snowfall amounts. Standard 10:1: 1 inch of liquid = 10 inches of snow (NOAA default). Kuchera: Temperature-based formula used operationally by NWS (warmer = wetter/heavier snow). Cobb-Waldstreicher: Physics-based algorithm accounting for dendritic crystal growth zone (-12°C to -18°C produces fluffiest snow). Byun: Considers both temperature AND precipitation rate (heavier precipitation = denser snow due to riming and faster crystal growth).
For models with pressure level data (GEFS, GFS16, ECMWF ENS), calculate snowfall at the exact elevation of the clicked point using pressure level interpolation. When enabled, both standard (grid-based) and elevation-adjusted snowfall amounts will be displayed. This provides more accurate snow predictions for mountainous terrain by using atmospheric conditions at the specific elevation rather than the model's surface grid.
Wind Model
Choose the global wind model for visualization. ECMWF updates every 6 hours. DWD ICON updates 4 times daily with 6-8 hour processing delay.
Radar Source
Choose the radar data source. Canadian radar covers all of North America. American radar provides detailed CONUS and Alaska coverage with 18-hour history.
For American radar source only: Choose between MRMS composite radar or NEXRAD single-site radar for current and historical views.
Radar Forecast
Show a timeline slider to view radar forecasts from now to 18 hours ahead.
HRRR: 3km CONUS | RAP: 32km North America | RRFS: 3km North America (hourly with 18h history)
Display HRRR radar forecasts for Alaska territory (18-hour forecast).
Data Layers
Display air quality index data in weather forecasts and current conditions.
Display pollen forecasts (tree, grass, weed) in weather information.
Snow Tracking
Display historical snow depth data from SNOTEL stations. Shows a bottom panel with charts and comparisons.
Display discontinued SNOTEL stations on the map and in search results. Active stations shown by default.
Experimental Weather Models
Access additional weather forecast models including HRRR (CONUS & Alaska), NBM (National Blend of Models), and DWD (ICON Global). These models are experimental and may have different update schedules.
NOAA's High-Resolution Rapid Refresh 3km forecast. Covers CONUS and Alaska with 48-hour outlook. Data from Dynamical.org (CONUS) and GitHub zarr (Alaska).
NOAA's high-resolution ensemble blend updated hourly. Covers CONUS, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Guam.
Germany's Deutscher Wetterdienst ICON global weather model. High-resolution forecast model with worldwide coverage.
Experimental Features
Display the actual forecast grid cell on the map as a green box. Shows NOAA NWS NDFD grid boundaries (~2.5km resolution), GEFS 0.25° grid (Days 1-10) and 0.5° grid (Days 10-35), or GFS 0.25° grid depending on your selected weather source. Available for NOAA NWS, GEFS, and GFS 16-Day models.
Display the initialization time of the forecast model being used. NWS NDFD updates hourly and runs 4x daily (00Z, 06Z, 12Z, 18Z UTC). GEFS runs once daily at 00Z UTC. GFS runs 4x daily (00Z, 06Z, 12Z, 18Z UTC). Shows model run times for NWS, GEFS, and GFS 16-Day weather sources.
